'THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE ELECTRIC GUITAR'
What have Hank Marvin, Brian May, Eric Clapton Gary Moore and Bert Weedon all got in common. Well of course they all play the guitar! They are also, along with many other famous pickers, contributors to or members of 'The Electric Guitar Appreciation Society' (TEGAS). Who then is better qualified to present a tribute to those great players (and many more) than its founder in a two hour guitar extravaganza. The first half covers the rock and roll pioneers of the mid 50s to mid 60s. The second half covers the rock and blues players of the mid 60s to mid 70s.
John well remembers the moment 'Rock around the Clock' first lit up the airwaves and everything changed forever! The great music kept coming for the next 20 years and we enjoyed every minute of it. The show features live, the music of the greatest and most influential guitarists of all time including the aforementioned and many American pioneers such as Duane Eddy, Scotty Moore, Buddy Holly, BB King and Jimi Hendrix.
The music is interspersed with humorous and entertaining recollections of the period. The sense of humour of those special years was unique too...people were able to laugh at themselves and their common experiences.
In his capacity as a guitar tutor, John has had many teenage pupils who have left him in no doubt that those who were lucky enough to have been young during those heady times will forever be the envy of future generations. Under 50s who love great guitar music also enjoy this show but if you are over 50, come along and celebrate the fact that your children and your grandchildren are so fascinated in the music, fashion and lifestyle of your youth that they have made you the first 'trendy' parents and grandparents in history! This two hour show features some of the fantastic hit songs from the most important and influential eras of the electric guitar's rise to being the most versatile and well loved musical instrument in history. Rock and Roll, Glam Rock, Rhythm and Blues and Pop. A highlight of this show is the way in which some of the amazing young 'guest' guitar players reinvent hits of the 40s Swing Era (Glenn Miller's In The Mood), the 60s Pop era (Tom Jones' Delilah) and even classical works (Pavaroti's Nessun Dorma).
